Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Nargis response
Thousands of people have been killed or are missing in Myanmar (Burma) in the wake of Cyclone Nargis, which pushed ashore on May 3. Villages in the Irrawaddy Delta have been completely flattened. Overall one million people may be homeless.
CWS initially provided emergency relief assistance -- particularly water, medical supplies, and shelter materials. Now, some 20,073 farm families will receive rice seed, fertilizer and inputs for their monsoon paddy rice crop, creating local jobs for landless laborers. Some 116,000 people will benefit.
